The Amazon rainforest or Amazonia is a moist broadleaf tropical rainforest covering most of the
Amazon basin. If you look at the map of South America you'll notice that almost sixty percent of
the forest is contained within Brazil. Besides that Peru and Colombia also contain a significant

around the globe with approximately 390 billion individual trees belonging to more than sixteen
thousand species. The Amazon rainforest isn't only inhabited by plants and animals, around
thirty million people belonging to 350 different ethnic groups also live here. In total the forest
covers an area of 5,500,000 square kilometers. Because of its incredible size, there are still
many parts of the forest that remain unexplored and many secrets that remain undiscovered.
